Why do I need this policy when the organization I work for already has a General Liability policy?
Boards need this coverage because they may be required by law to indemnify their directors for legal costs. Many companies will not allow their executives to sit on other boards if this coverage is not in place. Most boards require that Directors & Officers coverage be in place to assure prominent citizens serving on the boards that they will be covered if exposed to personal loss.
This coverage addresses the "wrongful acts" of the board and its officers not covered by the General Liability Policy, such as employment practices or breach of duty.
